Maya Musical_1w_2

Featuring an original script and Broadway composed music, The Maya Musical has been a life-changing experience for the 100 low-income students involved. Maya, a partnership between ASTEP and Teach for India, tells the story of Princess Maya’s journey. Tasked to bring light back into her Kingdom, Maya and her friends use the values of courage, compassion and wisdom to lift 3 curses that have been cast on the world.

Like Maya, these children have discovered their brightest light. Thanks to an extensive team of dedicated ASTEP Volunteer Artists, Teach for India staff and scores of supporters, the show opened this month to thunderous applause.

“Maya gives me the power to live my life.
Maya is an inspiration that helps me to help others.
Maya is a song that encourages me to sing out my own voice.”

Support ASTEP’s latest fundraising effort!

ASTEP Celebration Invite_2014

ASTEP is the proud recipient of a service grant from Youth, I.N.C. that includes year-long fundraising training, culminating in a benefit at the Waldorf Astoria on Tuesday, November 18. We have the opportunity to put this fundraising training into practice by selling tickets and sponsorships to the event — our fundraising goal is $54,000!

Youth, I.N.C. hosts the event and underwrites the costs so the funds we raise directly benefit our programs.**

Purchasing a ticket not only helps us achieve our fundraising goal but it will also make the arts accessible to underserved children, securing much needed art supplies and musical instruments so they can experience the magic of creativity and imagination.

Tickets are $300 and sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Please join us in celebrating our work — donate today!

** Youth, I.N.C. processes ticket sales so their name will appear on the credit card statement, but ASTEP will receive the funds.

We did it! ASTEP’s 1st Annual Artist as Citizen Conference!

AAC2014 Fellows_w

From June 2 – 6, 2014, ASTEP gathered 46 extraordinary young artists in NYC for four days of workshops, special guest speakers, group meals, and artist roundtables. We aimed to celebrate, connect, and develop young leaders in the arts by providing them with a transformative artistic and educational experience—and based on their feedback, we’re confident it was a success!

I meet a lot of people who just talk the talk. It was amazing to be around people who walk the walk. Thank you for an amazing opportunity to collaborate with young artists from around the country. This unity will last a lifetime.”

The workshops provided nourishment and encouragement for me to become a more selfless, more motivated human being of integrity. ASTEP is my new family. Thank you.”

There was a good progression of ideas on artistry, citizenship, and finally how we start putting our own plans in motion…I can never express my thanks enough for this conference – four days have never made such an impact on who I am as a human being/artist/citizen.”

Each participant is now an official Artist as Citizen Fellows, and we are certain that their leadership potential will lead them towards a path of responsible activism. Keep an eye out for information about the 2015 Artist as Citizen Conference!
